We say it never really left, but for many others the trend of wallpaper is making a comeback. The color, texture, and interest wallpaper can easily add to a room is addictive.
For those with terrible memories of scraping layers of ancient wallpaper, fear not! Today’s wallpapers and adhesives are made for easy installation and removal, so it’s really no more of a commitment than paint.
Rachel installed a scrubbable wallpaper backspash in her kitchen and cannot stop talking about it:
In lieu of tiles, I decided to experiment with installing wallpaper on my kitchen backsplash. Would the seams hold up to the steam and heat of the stovetop? Can it really stand up to everyday cooking splatters and kitchen mishaps?
Now six months in, I’m thrilled to say that it looks and works great! See photo below. Splashes easily wipe away. No problems with seams! I love the layering effect it gives to the kitchen, and, because it is so much less expensive to install than tile, I elected to take it all the way up the wall. The result is a subtle designation of the kitchen area, important in a big room which serves many functions.
Tiled backsplash – only below cupboards
Tiles: At least $500 + Installation: $1500-2000 = $2000+
Wallpapered backsplash – entire wall
1 double roll paper $125 + Installation $350 max = $500
You can have your statement backsplash without the cost and commitment of tile! There are four books of “Performance Wallcoverings” come on in and check them out!
