It’s that time of year again… You’re planning your dinner party or holiday menu. You have an only-organic-fish-and-poultry, a Chrones, a can’t-eat gluten, a doesn’t-like-garlic, a can’t-stand-goat-cheese-or-mushrooms, and maybe a few more who can and will eat anything, thank heavens. What do you do?
Well, first: breathe deeply. These are all your nearest and dearest, after all. Then, think about the table setting for a while; it will make you feel a lot better.
Think about changing your look up a bit. Start with the center of the table: gather your small vases and pick some foliage in a nice combination of colors, and textures, and voilà! Just a few stems later you will have a great centerpiece (just remember to keep everything low enough that everyone can converse). Add some taper candles to set the mood, pick your napkins, and in no time at all you’ll be feeling inspired and ready to tackle the menu.
One can work miracles with fish or chicken if those are the choices. Go to the farmer’s market for inspiration with side dishes and salads (Portland has many, even in the winter months!). I say, pick something you can prep ahead of time that can cook while you are enjoying your guests. After all, you are hosting dinner to spend time with your buds, right? Set out the appetizers, pour the drinks, and ahhhhh…relax!
Here at Home Remedies you’ll find lots of little touches to help set the mood, so when you need a break from menu planning, come on in and get inspired!
